In 2025, Sterling’s founder handed the torch to Mark Kanter, a long-time member of the school’s administrative team, a deeply respected speech therapist, and a guiding force within the Sterling community. Known for his ability to connect with students and families alike, Mark brings a rare blend of warmth, expertise, and vision to every corner of the school.
Our Founder, Guided by Experience and Heart
Ruth Arberman founded The Sterling School in 1999 with a clear and personal mission: to create the kind of school she once wished existed for her own child. As a seasoned educator, administrator, and Orton-Gillingham provider, Ruth brought deep expertise and heartfelt determination to building a school where students with language-based learning disabilities could truly thrive. Her legacy lives on in Sterling’s commitment to individualized learning, warmth, and possibility.

Every successful school has someone quietly making sure all the pieces come together. At Sterling School, that's Ariel. While much of her work happens behind the scenes, its impact is felt by every student, family, and staff member. Ariel helps ensure that our educators have the support they need to focus on what matters most, our students.
