Empowering Confident Learners
For Over 25 Years

A program tailored to their individual strengths

At our school, 2nd–6th grade students thrive in small classes with dedicated, multisensory instruction rooted in the Orton-Gillingham approach. These small groups allow us to know each child personally and design a program tailored to their strengths, challenges, and learning style.

Every child deserves to enjoy learning and feel confident at school

When children feel seen and supported, their confidence follows. Our personalized approach helps students shift from frustration to progress, and from self-doubt to pride in what they can achieve. We equip them with the tools they need to succeed—not just in school, but in the years ahead.

Our Small Class Sizes

Our small classes mean that every child is more than just a student—they’re truly a valued part of the Sterling family and supported in the various unique ways that they learn best.

Meet Our Founder

The Sterling School was founded in 1999 by Ruth Arberman, a dedicated educator and Orton-Gillingham specialist. Recognizing the lack of specialized educational options in the New York City metro area, Ruth, also a parent of a child with reading challenges, was inspired to create a school that would provide real solutions. Her vision was to offer a supportive environment where students with language-based learning disabilities could thrive and reach their full potential.

Is The Sterling School Right for Your Child?

At Sterling, we meet students where they are and help them believe in what they’re capable of.

The Sterling School may be a great fit if your child:

✦ Is bright and capable, but isn’t thriving in a traditional classroom, even with extra support

✦ Requires a more personalized, hands-on approach to learning

✦ Needs additional support services like speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, or counseling

✦ Needs a supportive environment that understands language-based learning disabilities

✦ Needs to develop in confidence and reduce anxiety with small class sizes and individualized attention

✦ Learns best through multisensory instruction

✦ Deserves a place where their unique strengths are recognized and celebrated

✦ Has been diagnosed with a language based learning disability but may also have ADHD, mild anxiety, and/or other learning differences.
