Speech & Language
Speech and language therapy plays an essential role in our program. Sterling’s speech-language pathologists are embedded in the school day, supporting students both in dedicated sessions and in real-time classroom settings.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy helps students develop the functional skills that support organization, motor coordination, and participation in daily school activities. Through personalized support, students strengthen the abilities that allow them to engage more fully in and out of the classroom.
Counseling Services
Sterling’s counseling services support students in building emotional awareness, strengthening communication skills, and developing healthy ways to navigate everyday challenges. Through guided social-emotional learning, students gain tools that support their well-being and relationships.
Physical Education
Physical education at Sterling emphasizes movement, teamwork, and confidence-building. Through games, sports, and learning about the body and nutrition, students strengthen coordination, collaboration, and physical development.
Electives
Friday afternoon electives give students the opportunity to explore new interests, build confidence, and express creativity in a relaxed, supportive setting. These hands-on clubs encourage curiosity, connection, and a sense of joy as students end the week.
STEM
Through our partnership with Voxel Academy, Sterling students participate in hands-on STEM learning that blends science, technology, engineering, and math with interactive projects. The program encourages exploration and creative problem-solving while introducing students to new tools and technologies.
Field Trips
Through thoughtfully planned field trips, students connect classroom learning to real-world experiences. These outings provide opportunities for hands-on exploration while helping bring lessons to life beyond the classroom.
Math
At Sterling, math instruction is built on the research-based methods of Marilyn Zecher's Multisensory Math—a hands-on approach that helps students truly understand concepts by seeing, touching, and experiencing them, rather than memorizing rules. Through co-taught, fully differentiated classes and adaptive tools like IXL, students build not just mathematical competence, but genuine confidence.
Writing
Writing is one of the most challenging skills for students with language-based learning disabilities, and one of the most empowering when taught well. Sterling's writing program uses structured instruction drawn from multiple research-based approaches, with classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists, and reading specialists collaborating to guide each student through every stage of the writing process.
